The Vagina Monologues Synopses

Backstory

This past weekend, I performed in a local community event with the Order Chaos Theater Company, of which I am a member. I am part of the cast of The Vagina Monologues, which will take the stage in early 2027. In the meantime, OCTC has held free events that are salon-styled community exhibitions of local theater companies and their pool of talent.

Prior to performing, we were asked to provide synopses of the monologues chosen for the preview. Here are mine!

The introduction (page 5) sets the stage for what the show offers- a story of the interconnectedness between vaginas, their owners, and those who hate/love/ignore one/both/all. Ironically, we start by pointing out the mysterious nature of the vagina. Hark, it's not easy to find it unless you're willing to do acrobatics. Then the disconnect between a "business woman" and her own body is a familiar feeling. Many of us don't have time to think about our own bodies. And that's the thing that is sad: The Vagina has its own story but no one seems to be listening because it's not a priority.

The Vagina Monologues My Angry Vagina

My Angry Vagina is more than a rant about the way Vagina's have been treated. It's a declaration of how exhausted vagina-having people are with having to adapt and contort ourselves in a world that is not made for us/it. The anger is not in the delivery per se, but rather, in the collective frustration of these shared experiences.

The opening is not said in exacerbation but in warning. "My vagina is angry." Full stop. There is no room for negotiation, because I have a list of reasons to be angry.

The list begins with the obvious things like tampons (and the various ways subjugation is shoved up our vaginas), and the smell. There is no argument; we know it's a calculated attempt to "undermined the pussy." The list continues to the less discussed gyno appointments, sexy underwear, and why the vagina can't be happy. We end with what the Vagina wants. Needs. Demands. And we all should listen.
